The longest runway in the North of England
The only French 'heavy' bomber base in WWII
One of the last Luftwaffe intruder attacks of the War
The highest number of post war speed record attempts
One of the few authentic RAF bomber bases open to the public.

The museum is a living memorial to all the Allied Air Forces personnel who operated from Yorkshire during the Second World War, and particularly the thousands of young people who gave their lives in that conflict. We aim to be relevant to present day generations by explaining in a realistic way what life was like on a typical wartime bomber station, as well as displaying the history of aviation.
