Jenny & Julian Ironside look forward to welcoming you to Le Grand Bost.

Our beautiful holiday cottage is a converted barn located in the Perigord Vert (North Dordogne). It has double-glazing and oil central heating, four very large bedrooms (3 upstairs and 1 down) and will sleep from 1 to ten people in total (maximum 8 adults). It has been designed and adapted for wheelchair users. Everywhere downstairs, except the washing machine & utilities cupboard, is accessible by wheelchair users with wide openings and tiled and smooth surfaces. There are 2 beds, which can be raised on blocks, one has a pull up attached to the ceiling. Electric switches are lower than normal. The kitchen sink is suitable to run a chair under (no frontage), so no excuse to avoid washing up! The shower/wc is large enough to take an electric chair and we have a movable shower chair as well as a fixed bench seat. Grab handles are positioned in that room. The w.c. is raised.

All of the outside is suitable for wheelchairs to move about easily and the pool has corner steps as well as a hoist and slings for those unable to use the steps. It has a level bottom at 1.5 metres. The cottage is set in the midst of the beautiful Foret de la Double, an area of mainly oak, chestnut and coniferous forest upland, with bathing lakes, deer, wild boar, wonderful birdwatching, and a host of interesting little villages. Bordeaux, Perigueux, Bergerac, Sarlat and St. Emilion are all within striking distance; Bordeaux is the furthest of these, an hour-and-a-half away, even for the most restrained driver or an hour on the train, thus wine tasting, noble old chateaux, medieval fortifications, vast underground caverns and a host of other possible activities and day-trip destinations, are all waiting to be seen, explored, drunk etc. For the golfing enthusiast there are two small courses within fifteen miles.
