Duxford makes every effort to maximise the enjoyment of visitors with special needs and most of the complex can be toured without restriction including the Operations Room. Wheelchairs are available on request, as are large print captions. Free site transport is available with a carriage to accommodate a wheelchair on non-air show days. A former Second World War RAF and USAF base, the Imperial War Museum Duxford is Europes premier aviation museum with many of its wartime buildings, such as the Control Tower, the Operations Room and hangars still in use. On display in the Museums seven main exhibition buildings are nearly 200 military and civil aircraft including Concorde, a Lancaster and an F-15 Eagle jet fighter. The award winning American Air Museum houses Duxfords outstanding collection of historic American military aircraft from a First World War biplane to supersonic jets and the beautifully restored B-24 Liberator. Duxford is home to many historic flying aircraft, which can be seen in the air during the summer months and at Duxfords world famous air displays. Visitors can also see the Museums staff carrying out skilled restoration and conservation work on exhibits. Although the Museum is known for its aircraft collection, the remarkable Land Warfare Hall houses tanks, vehicles and artillery displayed in a series of dramatic battlefield scenes depicting land warfare from the First World War to the Gulf and also includes two stunning exhibitions, The Normandy Experience and Monty. Duxford is at junction 10 on the M11. The Museum is open daily from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm (summer) and 10.00 am to 4.00 pm (winter).
