The necessary companion of a visitor with a disability is admitted Free of charge upon request, while the normal charge applies to the Disabled visitor.

Wheelchair Users

  • There is a wheelchair available for visitors use.
  • There is some parking on the Museum's forecourt - One space by the front door is marked for use of disabled only. We do our best to reserve space if booked.
  • There is level access through the ground floor to shop/reception, galleries (archaeology, Stonehenge, Pitt Rivers, Salisbury history and temporary exhibitions), coffee shop, toilets and lecture hall.

  • Hearing impaired people
  • There is an induction loop at Reception and in the Lecture Hall.
  • Staff are being trained in basic sign language.
    Guide and assistance dogs are welcome
  • We can provide water for them if requested.

  • Visually impaired people
  • There are presently few exhibits, which can be touched without supervision.
  • There are boxes of archaeological handling material available, which can be made available by prior booking.
  • For groups of visually impaired people sessions may be arranged using this material.
    Large print and audio brochures are available on request.
  • We have a programme of creating larger print labels for our displays.
  • An audio guide is planned.
  • Magnifying sheets and torch are available.

    Award winning museum Designated as having outstanding archaeology collections of national importance. Home of the re-designed Stonehenge Gallery, Warminster Jewel and Monkton Deverill gold torc.
    Displays of pre-history, Romans, Saxons, the medieval history of Old Sarum and Salisbury (with the renowned Giant and Hob Nob), the Pitt Rivers collection, ceramics and costume.

    Upstairs Downstairs
    The Museum is making access to its ceramics and costume collections upstairs available by other means downstairs for those who find it impossible to reach the upper floor. There is presently a modest computer facility for this. The Museum has applied for grant support to enable more ambitious virtual tours of the upstairs galleries to be created.

    How To Find Us

    By car: Follow city centre signs to car parks or Cathedral Close (parking charge).
    By train: SWT and Alphaline to Salisbury. Buses to city centre or 1.2 km level walk.
    By Bus: Alight at city centre, bus station or Exeter Street.
    By coach: Set-down places in city centre, St John Street and coach parks. Parking for disabled people in museum forecourt (booking advisable).
