Surrounded by native woodlands and close to the famous Falls of Clyde, New Lanark is less than an hour from Edinburgh and Glasgow. This beautiful 200 year-old conservation village has been beautifully restored as a living community and is one of the most popular attractions in Scotland.

The fascinating history of the village is interpreted in an award-winning Visitor Centre. The Annie McLeod Experience Ride, brings the past to life using the latest technology. Other attractions in the Centre include the Millworkers House, Robert Owens House, Village store and working textile machinery. Robert Owens School features a fascinating film show in the theatre, childrens interactive play area, restored historic classroom and Saving New Lanark exhibition.

Meals and snacks are available from the Mill Pantry and Hotel. For shopping there is the nostalgic 1930s Store, a large gift shop, an Edinburgh Woollen Mill , plus an artists studio. Accommodation is available in the New Lanark Mill Hotel, a stunning conversion from an original 18th century mill.

The location of the village in a steep-sided valley, though picturesque, is not ideal terrain for wheelchairs. However, we welcome wheelchair users and visitors with mobility problems and continue to improve facilities for disabled visitors. For further information, a free information sheet with advice for visitors with mobility difficulties is available upon request.
