The Rural Life Centre is an entirely private collection, assembled by Mr & Mrs Henry Jackson and run by a charitable trust. It is pleasantly distributed over ten acres of field, woodland and barns, and comprises a large number of implements and devices marking over 150 years of farming. Many aspects of village and rural life are also displayed in realistic individual settings and include:

Farming through the seasons.

Local hop growing.

Tools and crafts allied to country industries and needs.

Social history of village life from the 1800s - school, domestic, trades and others. A new display featuring an old fashioned rural post office and village inn (part of "The Mallinson Collection" formerly on show in Selborne).

Opening Times

The Rural Life Centre is open from March 14th. until October 31st., Wednesday to Sunday plus Bank Holiday Mondays from 10am to 5pm.

During the winter months the museum is open on Wednesdays and Sundays only between 11am and 4pm. (Last admission is always one hour before closing time.
