Goodall Cottage
|
All on one level
Summary:
On an attractive 50-acre private estate, just a couple of miles north of the picturesque seaside village of Elie (pubs, restaurants, all facilities) in the East Neuk of Fife, is Goodall Cottage. This former mews building has been imaginatively restored to make a most attractive and unusual holiday cottage which will most certainly appeal to all those interested in innovative modern design. It has also just been completely renovated. Reached by a short drive, it stands in a pleasant, lawned courtyard at right angles (and with its back resolutely turned) to Pitcorthie Cottage (CH9) and Pitcorthie House This means that if you want privacy, you can, with your own unoverlooked and enclosed private garden at the front, be completely separate and alone. On the other hand if two families or groups want to holiday together (but not too together) renting both Goodall and Pitcorthie Cottages could be the perfect solution. Inside, in the large L-shaped sitting-dining room the eye is instantly drawn to the superb abstract painting and extensive windows overlooking the garden. It also has a welcoming open fire, and a French door to the garden where there is a paved area for al fresco dining. The kitchen is spacious and excellently equipped and laid out, and adjoins a large walk-in cold larder and utility cupboard. There is new solid oak flooring throughout and some delightful lighting effects. Guests can also arrange access to the tennis court (at present in need of some renovation) within the gardens of Pitcorthie House. Peace and quiet is the order of the day in this tranquil setting. Golf enthusiasts will know, however, that Elie, while perhaps not as generally well-known as nearby St Andrews, is something of a golfing mecca itself, and there are any number of excellent courses within just a few miles of the cottage. St Andrews itself is just 8 miles away. Walkers can explore the Fife coastal path and look out for dolphins in the Firth. Boat trips out to the Isle of May to see the seabird colonies can be arranged from Elie, where there is also cycle and boat hire and many other seaside activities. You can be in Edinburgh within an hour, either by car or by train from Kirkcaldy, and the Fife hinterland is also full of places of historical interest and interesting things to do. There are a number of excellent restaurants in the area, but if the kitchen-slave at home feels like a holiday too without leaving the premises, highly recommended meals at the cottage can be arranged for your arrival, or ordered during the course of your stay. Heating is by gas central heating (first £10 of gas INCLUDED). First £10 of electricity INCLUDED. Bed linen and towels INCLUDED. Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. No smoking within the house.
