David trumps Victoria again in new poll asking young people who they’d like to sit next to on a bus to Glastonbury

David Beckham is the celebrity most young people would like to share a bus trip to Glastonbury with this weekend, according to a new poll.

An Ipsos MORI survey of over 1,000 young people aged 16-25 in England found that Beckham’s wife Victoria was not as popular however, beaten by other celebrities (including her old rival Jordan) into 11th place out of a list of 20. David Cameron was bottom of the list, beaten by Tony Blair who finished 14th.

Victoria can console herself with the fact that she has helped create a nation of shopaholics. More than one in three young people (35%) polled said they would visit a local shopping centre if given a bus or train ticket for the day, compared to only 7% who would visit the theatre or exhibition. The West Midlands proved the most shopping-fixated of all, with one in two young people (51%) choosing the shopping centre over any other activities.

The poll was commissioned as part of a travel campaign called GOJO which is encouraging young people who have difficulties or fears about using public transport to give it a go. GOJO has produced a new summer events and listings guide for five regions across England, with plenty of ideas to tempt young people out of the shopping centres.

GOJO spokesperson Natalie Salmon said: “We can’t promise you David Beckham but if you’re stuck for something to do on Glastonbury weekend, log on to www.mygojo.co.uk for lots of ideas from our regional event guides plus special offers and free tickets. With GOJO, young people can really take control and be more independent.”

GOJO activities culminate this weekend (June 22 – June 24) when young people are being encouraged to take up special offers with local transport and leisure companies and use public transport.
